Do You Really Need CO₂ in a Planted Aquarium?
AQUAPETS · 15 June 2026

CO₂ injection can transform a planted tank — but it isn't mandatory for every setup.
Low-tech can be beautiful
Plenty of stunning tanks run with no CO₂ at all, using slow-growing plants and modest light. If that's your style, skip the cylinder and enjoy the low maintenance.
When CO₂ helps
If you want fast growth, dense carpets like Monte Carlo, or vivid red stems, CO₂ paired with strong light and fertilisation makes the difference.
Start safely
Use a quality regulator with a solenoid, a bubble counter and a drop checker. Increase the rate gradually and always watch your fish — their comfort comes first.
